A drainage board sits between the waterproofing (plus protection layer) and the growing medium. Its dimples create a drainage void, and on many boards the cups on the upper face hold a reserve of water for the vegetation. A bonded filter fleece stops fines washing into the void.
Board choice is a balance of dimple height (drainage capacity and water storage), compressive strength (foot traffic, intensive landscaping, podium loads) and roll or sheet format. Published data for 20 mm boards shows roughly 6 l/m² water storage, and compressive strengths in the range of about 115–400 kPa depending on the product.
We supply boards to roofing contractors and green-roof installers; the roof build-up, root barrier and waterproofing system remain the designer’s responsibility.

Frequently asked questions
Is a 20 mm board enough?
For many extensive sedum roofs, yes; intensive landscaping and podiums usually need higher boards with greater compressive strength. The roof designer should specify.
Do I need the bonded fleece?
In green roofs, yes in most build-ups — it keeps substrate fines out of the drainage layer.
Can you supply root barrier and substrate?
Root barrier membranes can be sourced; growing substrate is normally sourced locally.
