VDA KLT sizes explained: 3147, 4147, 6147 and the Euro container system

Reading a KLT type number

In the VDA RL-KLT series the first digit(s) indicate the footprint and the last three digits the height:

"RL" denotes a smooth base suitable for roller conveyors and automated handling.

The modular logic

Footprints of 600 × 400, 400 × 300 and 300 × 200 mm divide the 1200 × 800 mm Euro pallet exactly, and the standard heights of 147.5 mm and 280 mm stack with a 15 mm overlap. That is why KLT and Euro containers mix on the same pallet and in the same racking.

KLT vs "Euro container"

"Euro container" is the broad family of 600 × 400-modular boxes; VDA KLT are a specific automotive series (VDA 4500) with defined features such as label positions and stacking interface. An OEM may require genuine VDA-compliant KLT from approved sources — check before substituting.

What to specify in an RFQ

Type number, quantity per type, colour, label holder layout, RFID/barcode, material grade (virgin or recycled PP) and delivery rhythm.
